Cant get refund or transfer ticket to my mother

Couldnt use ticket because sister had heart problems and got triple bypass.now still cant use ticket because of price tripled and cant transfer to own mother who is 83 yeas old and want to visit family.

Avoid American Airlines

Avoid American Airlines. I flew 10 flights on American or its partners between Feb 10 and Mar 11.

The flights themselves were fine.

However, AA has wasted more than 10 hours of my time due to chronic understaffing, deficient technology, or substandard baggage handling.

1. I made two booking changes with AA on a trip to Africa. These must be done by phone. Average wait time for a human on the phone was about one HOUR.

Each call took an ADDITIONAL hour to make the change. Additional calls were required because the phone app does not reflect current bookings. . On the last calls, it was a supervisor on the call.

2.

When changing the DATE of flights from Houston to Dakar (Senegal), an idiot at American changes the flight to depart from Washington DC (DCA) instead of Houston (IAH). DCA vs IAH? This cannot be a typo!

3. When I called to fix this, a new flight was booked, and the departure from DCA was cancelled.

However, the DCA flight remained on my American phone app until the date of departure. They said that they couldnt remove it! If that isnt a technology problem, what is? Reservations told me to contact customer service.

I sent a 10 page letter to customer service with screen shots if the problem, and they didnt fix it. American Airlines is organized to make it nearly impossible for employees to learn from their problems and correct them. They are organized to fail.

3. On my return flight from Morocco to Houston via JFK and DFW, all four checked bags arrived at JFK.

I had to claim them, take them through customs, and recheck them. All four were rechecked at the same time. Only 3 of 4 were loaded onto the flight to DFW. We filed a claim in Houston.

American said they had custody of the missing bag in New York. The following day, I got an email saying it was in Houston and would be delivered that evening. It never arrived, and I didnt get an update until the following day. It was left at the front door of my house late on the second day with no security whatsoever.

Anyone could have taken it leading to a new dispute. This is evidence of going through the motions without giving a damn.

4. A few days later I flew to California through DFW with two bags. Americans mobile app showed both bags loaded to DFW, but only one unloaded at DFW!

I asked the agent at the second flight boarding gate to check on this. She showed me another place on the American app which showed both were on their way to the connecting flight. I showed her that the other page on my phone showed that one bag had still not been unloaded from Houston. She acknowledged that the same same was showing conflicting information.

Americans technology sucks. They have the correct data, but they display it in one place but not in another. Only a dysfunctional business would think that is a good business practice.

5. When I returned to Houston from California a week later, one oversized bag (skis) did not arrive at the place where the large Oversized Baggage sign said it should be.

Other passengers had the same problem. The American baggage agent said it should be there. We found our skis at the regular baggage carousel where they were NOT supposed to be. The baggage agent agreed this was wrong.

My ski bag was in two parts split open by careless handling. The baggage agent filed a claim and American says it will cover the cost of repair. All if this comes at my inconvenience as was the case in each of the examples above.

Honestly, 10 flights and over 10 hours wasted making flight changes (due to absurd wait times), trying ti fix inaccurate flight changes (changing the airport if embarkation from Houston to Washington), calling to get their phone app to accurately reflect current bookings, only 3 of 4 bags checked together making a flight, careless handling of baggage.

I will use the rest of my frequent flier miles at American and then avoid them as I would avoid Covid.

No one needs or wants Covid. No one needs or wants dealing with an incompetent airline that cannot handle the basics reliably.

This company does not fix problems brought to their attention, is chronically understaffed (wait times), has a phone app that shows information they know to be wrong, and cannot handle baggage reliably.

Avoid American Airlines.

The flight booked for Dec 23rd from LGA to MIA was Canceled randomly and the only rebooking option that was offered was for the flight on Christmas Day with the the stop.

My vacation is ruined. I was supposed to meet my family.

No refund or a voucher was even offered. Horrible service

"Canceled randomly" The use of "randomly" shows a certain amount of stupidity. There's nothing "random" about a winter storm that's shutting airports down across the nation and slowing down the system.

And before you say something stupid like "it's sunny there" please understand, it's all one system. If the airports are open, there are delays due to de-icing. These delays eat into flight crew times which by law, they can not exceed. If this happens, the crew will time out and can't go.

There is absolutely nothing random about this silly child. If you want an apology, you must speak to the entity that created the storm.

Why are you demanding $1200 when the tickets were $800 ? That is what we call a 'scam' ; people trying to get something for nothing. Your choice of the term 'ruined' is equally childish ; a solution was offered but you didn't want it.

Nobody is going to apologize because nobody is sorry. Anything anyone would utter in that vein is insincere and sarcastic.

NO flight refund- mechanical delay 3 days!

Mechanical issue meant I was unable to make connecting flight. American Airlines said they would give me the next available flight, no problem!

Next available flight 3 days later!! I missed 3 days of work and ran out of prescription medicine. Turns out the seat I was issued 3 days later was actually a standby ticket! I did get home, not in the upgraded seat I paid for.

Ticket counter attendant told me they would refund my flight, no problem because it was their fault. Tried to get a refund from American Airlines, they said because I used my ticket (3 days later) that I was not eligible for a refund! American Airlines is the WORST!

I overpaid and was very underserved! NEVER AGAIN AMERICAN AIRLINES!!!

Running out of medicine was your fault. Always overpack ; keep one week supply on your person (carryon, purse, pocket, whatever) and two weeks worth in your checked baggage.

Never put it all in one place.

I probably don't need to tell you that now that the horse escaped the barn, but remember it next time. I've done it for years and never had an issue - even when the luggage failed to arrive with the flight.

That was just an additional bonus to loosing 3 days of work (running out of rx). Not really the problem, the lax attitude to deny, deny any refund regardless -was very upsetting.

Thank you for pointing out my Rx bad planning and how irresponsible I was, but that was not really the issue. Thanks

I was charged almost $600 for a round trip flight from TPA to Miami! Was charged $30 each way for a check in luggage!

The flight was a one hour flight! Complete rip off! I called to make a ticket time change, same say, and was hold it was $340? I quoted the agent the online cost of $81 for the change, they said, oh did not see that I only paid $71!

American is a complete rip-off and a scam! Incredible, go be charged this price for a flight that was one hour long each way. I would rent a car and drive before I take American again. Can drive the 4 hours in a nice rental with gas for less than $150.

Do the math!

American gas turned to *** and a rip-off. Miami is a third world airport!

I was flying flight1100 from Bna to Dallas. I get to baggage claim and was told baggage was at C12 then C4 C15.

The lady working I believe was Tiffany and was training a young lady kept giving me the run around. She put a claim in to be sent to hotel where I am staying in Fort Worth. I asked her how long will it be she stated she doesnt know. I asked for a supervisor at this point because my bagge is left in Tennessee.

I asked her to let me know what I need to do because I cant have it no to a hotel and then we are gone. She told me she dont know what to tell me. The airport police officer Ms helped me more than she did.

I need to know where my luggage is located and when it will be here. We had to go and buy clothes because we dont have anything with us.

On a flight from Philly to Palm Beach, FL on 8/8/22 I was on a full flight on a window seat. A huge man, about 400lbs sat next to me & his huge body invaded my space. The weight of his body leaned on my body and I was in discomfort the entire flight. It was absolutely brutal & no place to go. Customer service refused to refund or credit me for that flight which I couldn't believe given the enormous discomfort I had to endure. I will never fly American airlines again.
