I'm an Executive Platinum (highest tier) with American Airlines. I recently purchased a RT ticket from DFW to BWI, departing 11/04/14.

While booking my December travel today, I noticed the fare I paid for the DFW to BWI trip was significantly less expensive (20% reduction). I called the Executive Platinum desk to inquiry about a refund. They told me they did have a low fare guarantee but in order to get the refund, I would have to pay a $200 change fee first! Their reasoning was this was a customer initiated change and therefore the change fee would apply.

This is how American Airlines treat their top tier customers. FLYER BEWARE!
