IMO the fee is totally justified. The airlines should only have to refund if the hurricane impacts the flight, not because your meeting was cancelled.

Deceptive booking practice. On web, when buying from aa web site American does not indicate clearly why you should never buy a ticket operated by another airline. The receptionist that for airline club entrance and priority, you basically have none. Airline club membership in bogotá is invalid when flying on another operator than American. American needs to add a warning flag before booking.
