My wife took me on a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas for my 60th birthday. AA lost our luggage for the 3 days. Finally got it back the night of the end of cruise. No one seemed to know what to do. Talked to at least 5 different people, got 5 different excuses. Royal Caribbean helped us bur AA told us the bad went to Texas, then they weren't sure, then we were told it went to Miami, then we were told it never left Hartford CT., never got loaded onto plane. There were so many mistakes and incompetent representatives that I was astonished AA could operate like this. They told us they would reimburse us $ 250.00 each to spend but we were on a cruise so that did not help much. Then after I wrote AA, they gave us vouchers for 100 dollars each. Not good enough for ruining our entire cruise. Royal Caribbean and I spent 5-6 hours on the phone trying to locate our luggage. Bad service, worse compensation. Horrible experience. Don't think I will ever use AA again if possible

Last august I was scheduled to fly from Edmonton to SoCal. I arrived at ticket counter 1 hour ahead of flight and they wouldn't let me board. [I accept blame] Then i tried to reschedule for later that day and they told me I would need to purchase an entire new ticket [$1,664] rather than just pay a $200 change fee. When i got home I contacted AA and they said I should have just paid the exchange fee. They told me I had to go to the customer relations website, which i did. I received the automated response that they received my complaint and would soon get back to me. This has now happened 3 times. I can not get anyone to do anything except send me to the website which gets no response. At his point I feel like I am in the movie Groundhog Day where i keep having the same experience time after time. Absolutely horrible service. Combining these 2 Airlines is scary bad!

Welcome to flying today, once the airlines were deregulated it's been seriously downhill. Flying was a pleasure in the 60s and 70s.

It's cheaper now (sometimes, if you're lucky).

Of course, we can all thank our friendly neighborhood terrorists too ever since we invaded iraq.

I'm a platinum advantage member. I booked a RT flight and am holding the confirmation. 5 hours before return flight to *** I get an IVR saying I have been moved to an earlier flight that will depart in 2 hours. I race to the airport an en route call to ask why I was bumped off my original flight. Nobody knows. But - they charge me $75 to get back on my original flight! Then they charge me for bag check (not supposed to for Gold/Platinum). Even gate agent acknowledges this all in error but when she calls supervisor - no support. Infuriating! And such a shame that this company does not support their people who are customer-facing. Ridiculous.

Worst service ever! | American Airlines review from Marysville, California

As of right now, my elderly, disabled and non-English speaking parents are still stuck in Chicago in route to Fresno, Ca. They showed up yesterday to the airport as scheduled to be told that their returning home flights were canceled and had no reservations since they missed their flight from Chicago to Wausau, WI on 11/23/14, which was not even my parents fault when AA decided they were not going to fly out. Now my parents are being tossed and declined every corner they turn and told, no, you didn't do this or that. What the heck? They are in the 70's and do not speak English. To make the long and insane story short, bottom line is that the service my parents received from AA was inhumane, down grading and trying to take advantage of these elderly people thinking since they don't speak or understand any English, their seats can be sold to someone else who is dumb enough to pay extra. This is inhumane and insane. I will never recommend anyone to fly with AA again.

During the 1st flight connection we were told the same carry on bags we checked in Detroit were to big in Phoenix. We we required to check the at the gate and to our surprised they did not arrive at our final destination. This is day 2 with no trace of our bags. Unable to pay bag fee for homeless kid | American Airlines review

Today I spent all day talking to reservation staff, including supervisors at 1-800-433-7300 and at LAX airport, trying to pay for a homeless kid's bag. I could not pay on-line, by phone or at the ticket counter at LAX with my credit card. I finally got a supervisor to "pre-pay" the bag and charge me a $100 fee, plus bag fee, to do so. Total $125. The insensitivity and unwillingness to let me pay for a bag for a 20 year old homeless kid in LA is the most appalling thing I have every experienced. No one should fly American Airlines.
